STI Guide
Chlamydia is the most common STI.
Chlamydia can be easily and successfully treated with the use of antibiotics.
Symptoms:
- Often nothing, until the Chlamydia spreads
- Pain or stinging when urinating
- Discharge from penis or anus
- Inflamed and painful anus
- Sometimes affects eyes and throat.
Treatment: 2 – 3 visits to the clinic
Prevention:
- Chlamydia is a germ which infects the genital area, and sometimes the eyes and throat.
- Using condoms will reduce the risk of infection.
The test
In males it is a simple urine test
In females it is either a urine test of a self taken swab.
Chlamydia testing kits are available by post from Inscape for under 25 year olds. Other clients can be tested at their nearest GUM clinic.
